Historical/Legendary Background

Barangay Batang was once a mother barangay composed of barangays Layon, Pinit, and Bay. According to old folks, Batang got its name from a big tree called "batang" found in the place whom the folks believed was floating in water when once there was a flood.

Another version is that this area was considered a forest that served as the trail of a few inhabitants dwelling in the place. One day, a lightning struck a large tree which fell down and blocked the road. Since then, the place was called Batang, which is the Bicol term for obstacle or hindrance.

Geography/Topography

Barangay Batang is bounded on the North by Barangay Pinit; Barangay Layon on the South; Barangay Binanowan and Nabonton on the East and on the West by Barangay Bay. It has a total area of 399.17 ha. It is located 3.5 km. from Poblacion.

People

The people celebrate their Barangay Fiesta every 4th of October in honor of St. Francis de Assisi.
